Popular Dessert Catering Styles for 2021

This year, dessert catering has taken a more innovative and exciting turn with design and creativity. Right now, dessert catering is more about the style in which you serve a dessert than what the dessert may be. However, you always want to make sure the dessert is delicious too! You see, many people really enjoy eating their dessert in different forms and fashions, so many catering professionals have added options to their repertoire like lemon sorbet served out of an actual lemon rind, or tropical fruit medley served out of the freshly carved out pineapple boat.

Little touches like these can really add to the quality of catering and overall guest experience. By incorporating similarly-creative dessert catering approaches to your catering plan, you can really set the bar higher in terms of guest expectations, and most importantly, create long-lasting memories. Below are the top four current dessert catering trends you may want to consider for your upcoming event or special occasion.

Mini Indulgent Desserts

Decadent desserts are often a hard sell a catered event because many people don’t want to fill up their stomachs with something really heavy after already dining on drinks, appetizers, and entrées. To eliminate this obstacle, while still maintaining the integrity of an elegant dessert, catering professionals are introducing petite plated options more and more. This approach is wonderful because it still delivers the high-quality luxury and indulgence you come to expect of such a dessert, but without weighing down the guest afterwards.

Currently trending mini indulgent desserts include miniature crème brûlée desserts served in miniature baking dishes, “pie in a jar” layered desserts served in Mason jars, tiny tiramisu cups, apple pie Ala mode served in miniature cast-iron skillets, mini raspberry cheesecakes served in gold foil cupcake wrappers, and any variety or combination of mini fruity tartlets!

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

In the warmer seasons of the year, a catered event is perfectly curated when there is an element of the menu that can cool the guest down. As for dessert, liquid nitrogen ice cream has been a big hit this year. This is partly because catering and food service technologies are more readily available on the market today. Therefore, it is easier for professional catering companies to incorporate liquid nitrogen ice cream service.

Not sure what liquid nitrogen ice cream is? Well, it’s more than just dessert; it is also a pretty impressive show! Liquid nitrogen ice cream is made to order, using liquid nitrogen (-320°F) to rapidly freeze the ice cream customizable textures and shapes. Have you ever heard of the Dip N Dots ice cream company? That is liquid nitrogen ice cream.

Donut Wall or Tower

Well, last year, it was the cupcake tower in the cupcake wall taking up all the catering dessert spotlight. But this year, many catering clients are opting for doughnuts, and for good reason! Not only are doughnuts infinitely customizable, but there are very few people in this world who do not enjoy a donut. Also, donuts are served individually, which makes it easily accessible for guests and promotes a higher level of hygiene among the crowd.

The great thing about donut walls and towers are that they are more than just a dessert, they are also a wonderful focal point for any party or special occasion. Best of all, this option tends to be one of the more economically priced catering dessert approaches compared to the others and can be customized on a wide spectrum of size and scope.

Popcorn Candy Bar

Candy buffets are always a huge hit, whether an adult or child. This year, many people are expanding their candy bar horizons by incorporating popcorn to their catered dessert menus. Not only is popcorn so versatile, delicious either sweet or savory, or both at the same time, but popcorn is also economically priced, making it quite affordable for budgets of all sizes.

From traditional caramel corn and kettle corn to white chocolate drizzled, pecan nut medley, strawberry yogurt, and much more, the popcorn innovations of 2021 are quite impressive. Consider adding a popcorn caper to your upcoming catered event or special occasion!

Weddings are Not the Only Event to Cater Anymore!

Traditionally, weddings are deemed as the only event worthy of hiring professional catering service and staff. But this is not true anymore! With all of the innovative changes and additions to the catering industry, all events can benefit from hiring professional caterers, large or small! From your daughter’s 13th birthday party to your 2022 family reunion, professional catering companies can offer you a custom plan that meets your all of your needs.

Types of Events Commonly Catered in Georgia

With so many occasions in life to celebrate and honor, it is impossible to pick the ones that are most significant. Although all events and special occasions are great candidate for professional catering service, there are some that happen to be better suited, or exceptionally receptive to it. Catering service can help these events and occasions flow much better, and even have a more successful outcome.

The top three events that work well with professional catering include parties, particularly birthdays, weddings, and graduations:

Birthdays

Birthday parties for larger crowds and families need a lot of food and drink. Most of the time, a person thinks cooking out or loading the grill will suffice feeding a large group at a birthday party, but this is not always the case.  Parties should be about fun and relaxation, for everyone! This is why the food should be in the hands of a professional, so the host can sit back and enjoy the festivities. In many cases, the costs are very similar between providing your own food for a large party and having it catered. It is better to just let an expert take charge of this aspect of the party!

Weddings

Weddings are the ultimate event to have catered professionally. A wedding day is certainly a time to remember forever; and you do not want to remember store bough shrimp cocktail sauce and boxed wine. Have a professional catering company put a romantic and elegant touch on any wedding theme.  A good catering business can shift to cater all types of themes and food varieties.

Graduations

Graduations are a sophisticated time of a person’s life. This is why the food for a graduation party should be catered by professional staffs. To honor such a huge milestone in someone’s life, cater the food to reflect this achievement. The food represents an event in so many ways, and is usually the most remembered part. Choose wisely when it comes to planning your next event or party, and have it catered by professionals for the best results.

The Importance of Alcohol and Bar Safety for Large Group Catering

Catering is a wonderful amenity to bestow upon friends at any celebration. Yet, there is much to think about when planning a large group catering event, especially when you are considering alcohol and bar service. Although cocktails and alcohol service is a great perk to have at any social gathering, there are many safety precautions to fully understand before planning a large group catered event with bar service.

Continue reading to learn more about the importance of alcohol and bar safety for large group catering events, and what you and your professional caterers can do to ensure your guests are fully protected and catered to.

Professional Alcohol and Bar Service

Alcohol is the center piece, so to say, in most catered soirees. Without the alcohol, it is just not a party. To guests, alcohol service looks simple and easy, but the truth is, responsibility is a huge key item in the process of serving alcohol at a public or private event.  See, there are by-law and liability issues that most are unaware of, or neglect to consider prior to planning a catering event with liquor service. Catering companies are tied by very strict guidelines, so in actuality, there is a lot of work and planning for just this one element of your party.

Guest safety is the most important responsibility the host and catering company have.  There are several ways a host or catering company can get in trouble with alcohol at their event when it comes to the safety of the guests.  Here are some examples:

Serving Minors

Along with guest safety, comes safety and protection for minors. There are laws pertaining to the drinking age, different state by state, but here in Indiana, the legal consumption age is 21 years old. It is important to make sure the staff serving the alcohol understands minors will be attending the event, and to I.D. anyone who appears under the age of 35. If a minor is served alcohol, not only will the host be given a citation to appear in court and face fees, fines, and possible jail time, but the catering company will be cited as well, which can result in a loss of their liquor license and fines. It is important to be aware of the children and minors at any event, and to protect them from harm.

There are different strategies that have been implemented in the past that make it easier to identify minors versus legal drinkers at a large event. For example, a designated person or persons can ask to see photo I.D. of everyone at the door before allowing entry onto the premises. Everyone of age will get a plastic snap-lock wrist band, marking them as legal drinkers. For minors, a large black X on both hands in permanent marker and no wrist band.  This is a quick method for bartenders and caterers to identify who can drink alcohol and who can’t, without the hassle of asking everyone to pull out their wallets with their photo ID every time they approach the bar.

There are flaws in the strategy to be aware of as well. Teenagers are tricky, and they can sometimes find a way to rub the black X’s off their hands or tape a used wrist band back together, to appear legal. This is a precaution to warn the catering company about, as well as the guests of children, before the party begins.

Over-Serving

Over consumption of alcohol is no stranger to anyone who has attended college, a football game, or a night club.  We have all seen the results of over drinking, and most of the time, it is not pretty.  One way for caterers to protect themselves, as well as the host or client, is to hire a “Serving It Right” staff.  This is basically any staff that has had formal training in responsible alcohol service.

By doing this, a huge burden is released from the hosts’ shoulders, knowing that everyone on staff is on the same page and understands how to handle alcohol related serving situations. They can notify the host if anyone has reached their limit and needs to be “cut off” from alcohol service. The catering company and its servers are there to protect both the host and their guests from over consumption and possibly hurting themselves or others. They are always the “sober” ones at events, and their judgment is always unimpaired.

Host Liability

If a guest has become intoxicated as a result of over serving at a catered event and then gets injured or injures someone else at an event or after leaving the event, the caterers, catering company, bartenders, and even the host will all share the liability if the accident results in a lawsuit. This has happened in the past, but is nothing to be concerned about if all necessary precautions and arrangements are made prior to the party.  As long as everyone involved in putting together the event understands the responsibility they hold when serving alcohol at an event, the party should run smoothly every time.

Hosting a Halloween Party in Style

When it comes to hosting a Halloween party, there are several variables involved, from guest lists and invitations, to costumes, decorations, games, and more. But of all the factors that need addressed when planning your party, the food is always the focal point, and therefore, the most important! Your guests will certainly enjoy and appreciate your effort in décor and more, but the food will be what they remember the most. It’s simple party science!

So, let’s get right to it; there are 3 basic steps to ensuring your Halloween party has everything a Halloween should have to offer, plus some!

Halloween Decorations and Games

You can’t have a Halloween party without the silly and spooky Halloween ambience. So, plan to make a visit to your local or online party store for the best Halloween decorations the market has to offer this year. Be creative, but also feel good about incorporating the classics, like witches, bats, broomsticks, pumpkins, and spiders. As for entertainment, plan some fun Halloween-themed games, such as Stick the Eyeball on the Werewolf, or hanging a witch piñata.

Halloween Beverages and Cocktails

Your guests will certainly be thirsty, so be sure you have a generous selection of beverages, including non-alcoholic drinks, like iced tea, juice, soda, and bottled water. Then, incorporate some Halloween-themed cocktails and mocktails, such as Bloody Mary’s or Green Slime Slushies. You can also do champagne with an eyeball at the bottom of the flute, chocolate milkshakes with cake crumble and gummy worms, and fake spiders frozen in ice cubes!

Halloween Party Food and Snacks

You want your guests to come back for seconds and thirds when hosting any type of party, especially if there is alcohol being served. So, in order to ensure your guests are eating copiously, serve delicious food! Confirm a comprehensive and satisfying spread with various finger foods, fruit and vegetable appetizers, handheld platters, main entrees, and desserts. While considering all of these options, also consider adding a Halloween spin on your catering. First…Decide on a Date

Setting a date is the first thing that should be on your to-do list. Once you have a date set, you can move forward with the remaining party-planning tasks. Be sure to set your date within a reasonable time; not too soon but not too far out. Give yourself a realistic amount of time to pull off a great event, while also making sure to not set it so far in advance that people become forgetful or unenthusiastic about it.

It is also important to consider seasonal factors like weather and climate. If you have your heart set on an outdoor event in Georgia, you don’t want to set the date in late November. Likewise, avoid rainy or humid seasons for outdoor events. Not only does rain and humidity affect food and beverages, it affects a long list of other things, like clothing, hair, windows, and more.

Set a Realistic Budget

Discuss what your total budget will be before planning anything else so that you and your team are on the same page in terms of finances. Knowing your budget up front helps you stick by it, and makes the selection process much easier. Let your services know what your budget is, and they can provide the options that fit best.

Select a Suitable Venue

As soon as the date is set, the very first thing you need to do is find and reserve a venue. Be sure to due ample research, and see what all the local indoor and outdoor venues have to offer in terms of location, aesthetics, packages, and amenities. Choose a place that makes sense for the size and type of the group attending. A space too small will create a cramped and hot event, and a space too large will feel empty, which can cause a disconnection among guests and make your event appear like it had a poor turn out. For a group that is elderly or handicapped, you don’t want to book your event at a place with lots of stairs, or without safety ramps, elevators, and other necessary conveniences.

Choose Your Entertainment

If you were to ask the guests, the catered food and beverages are the best part of any event. In fact, it is often the focal point of a party! For this reason, an exceptionally catered event doesn’t need much more entertaining. But if you do want to spice things up a bit, nothing will render a party more memorable than music. Hire a live band, or provide a platform for guest karaoke. You can also choose to hire a professional DJ, violinist, cellist, harp player, piano player, dueling pianos, and more, depending on the theme of your event. For events with children, bouncing houses, clowns, face painters, magicians, and exotic animals are a fun way to go.
